EAC Consulting Group are working in partnership with a specialist instrumentation company based in Milton Keynes. Due to continued growth, they are looking for a Laboratory Technical Manager to join their UKAS accredited (0653) laboratory.
As this is a specialist business, we are looking for candidates who have pre-existing calibration laboratory skills. Candidates must have skills and experience with calibration, calculation of uncertainty budgets, engineering and MS Excel. Experience, especially within, an electronics field would be applicable.

- £35,000 – £45,000 Annual Salary
- 25 days annual leave + bank holidays

The Laboratory Technical Manager Role
- As Calibration Laboratory Technical Manager you will maintain and improve the technical procedures at the lab, while developing new procedures to enable the company to calibrate additional instruments and broaden the scope of the laboratory’s services.
- The Laboratory Manager will maintain, monitor and improve the company’s instrumentation while working alongside the Quality Manager to maintain and improve the laboratory’s BS EN ISO 17025 quality management system.
- Taking responsibility for the maintenance and traceability of the company’s calibration systems the Laboratory Manager will also review and evaluate measurement uncertainties of the calibration procedures. You will also be expected to justify procedures and uncertainties in response to queries arising from both internal and external audits.
- The Laboratory Technical Manager will manage the laboratory’s workload, managing the Lab Technicians and Senior Technicians and work with them to achieve the laboratory’s 5-day turnaround target.
- Tasks for the Laboratory Technical Manager will include; determining, agreeing and recording customers calibration requirements via email and telephone, calibrating instruments and recording results according to company procedures, identifying faults and proposing solutions.
- The Laboratory Manager will also assist the Service Delivery Team as required, providing evaluations as to whether instruments can be calibrated or repaired and carrying out repairs where necessary.
The ideal Laboratory Technical Manager
- Candidates must have strong technical involvement in a Technical Manager or Senior/Principal Technician role within a BS EN ISO 17025/ISO 9001 Calibration Laboratory.
- A recognised qualification in Electronics, Engineering or Acoustics.
- Candidates should have strong numeracy and IT skills, being a competent user of Microsoft software, in particular Excel.
- The ideal Laboratory Manager will have good literacy and communication skills and experience of providing technical services in a customer facing role.
